I got in love with icons living in Greece and following the teachings of a wonderful old man who could paint icons by heart,wihtout copying them from anywhere and without missing a single particular. Because, if you do not know it, icons cannot be fantasy or personal imagination, but should copy completely the original. So there are the various Virgins (of Tendress, of Good Voyage, of Sorrow and so on). Or they are representations of Jesus' life from the Gospels from birth to Death and Resurrection. Greek icons are more colourful and without silver plates like the russian ones, but they are the ones I prefer.
